After seven years ‘No concrete evidence’ says CBI Judge in 2G case verdict

As the Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court lastly marked its verdict in the 2G spectrum allocation case. OP Saini, the judge in the most controversial 2G case, cited that he waited for all these years for someone to provide concrete evidence in opposition to the accused, but 'not a single soul turned up’. This was read in his copy of judgment.

Judge Saini further asserted the lack of 'legally admissible evidence’ gave indication that everybody was going by public views created by rumor, gossip and speculation in the 2G case.

"I may also add that for the last seven years, on all working days, summer vacation included, I religiously sat in the open court from 10 am to 5 pm, waiting for someone with some legally admissible evidence in his possession, but all in vain. Not a single soul turned up," Justice Saini wrote.

"However, public perception has no place in judicial proceedings,"verdict given by Justice Saini further was read.

Saini’s verdict further stated that the charge sheet distorted the official record and incorporated oral statements of the witnesses 'that are not acceptable in law.'

"The chargesheet of the instant case is based mainly on misreading, selective reading, non-reading and out of context reading of the official record. Further, it is based on some oral statements made by the witnesses during investigation, which the witnesses have not owned up in the witnessbox. Lastly, if statements were made orally by the witnesses, the same were contrary to the official record and thus, not acceptable in law," the Special CBI Judge quoted.
