NEW DELHI: The Shipping Ministry has announced six service avenues for Agniveers transitioning from the Indian Navy to various capacities in the Merchant Navy. This comes amid nationwide protests against the Agniveer scheme, a short-term armed military recruitment programme. Affected armed forces candidates claim that there is a lack of information about future job prospects for individuals who are selected as Agniveers. According to an official release, the initiative will allow Agniveers who have completed their tour of duty with the Indian Navy to obtain the appropriate training, naval experience, and professional certification to join the merchant navy anywhere around the globe. On Saturday, the Directorate General of Shipping notified the provisions. "These schemes for Agniveers include transitioning from Indian Navy Ratings to Certified Ratings in Merchant Navy, from Indian Navy Electrical Ratings to Certified Electro-Technical Ratings in Merchant Navy, from Indian Navy Ratings to Certified Class IV-NCV CoC holders in Merchant Navy, from Indian Navy Electrical Ratings to Certified Electro-Technical Officers in Merchant Navy, from Indian Navy Cook to Certified Cook in Merchant Navy, and from Indian Navy Deck Sailer to Certified Deck Sailer in Merchant Navy."
