Air India has announced it will increase flights on major international routes starting March 30, 2025. The airline is making these changes in a bid to improve connectivity and offer more travel options.

Upgrading the Fleet
Air India is updating its aircraft to improve passenger experience. The airline plans to finish modernizing its narrow-body planes by mid-2025.
Boeing 787 upgrades will start in April 2025, with the first upgraded plane ready by October. After that, 2-3 more will be updated each month until all 27 planes are refreshed.
Boeing 777 upgrades were planned for 2025 but are delayed until early 2026 due to supply chain issues. In the meantime, Air India will refresh some interiors on these planes.
Temporary Route Suspensions
To focus on these upgrades, Air India will pause some routes temporarily:
Mumbai to Melbourne flights will stop from March 30 to September 13, 2025.
Kochi to London Gatwick flights will stop from March 30, 2025, until further notice.
Despite this, Air India will continue flying to London Gatwick 12 times a week from Amritsar, Ahmedabad, and Goa.
More Indians Traveling Abroad After Pandemic
Notably, now more and more Indians are traveling to other countries post-pandemic. This rise is mainly because people are going on vacations and Indians living abroad are visiting home or traveling for work. One big reason for this trend is that more people are interested in taking international trips for vacation.
