Bharti Airtel has rolled out India’s first AI-powered spam detection solution aimed at tackling the growing issue of spam calls and messages. This innovative network-based tool alerts customers in real-time about suspected spam without requiring any action from them. The dual-layer protection system processes billions of calls and messages daily, significantly enhancing security for Airtel users.
On Wednesday, Bharti Airtel introduced this groundbreaking solution, designed specifically to combat spam calls and messages for its customers.
“This is a first-of-its-kind solution by a telecom service provider in the country. The tool will notify customers in real-time of all suspected spam calls and SMS. Best of all, it is free of charge and will be automatically activated for all Airtel customers, requiring no service requests or app downloads,” the company announced.
Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel, emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “Spam has become a menace for customers. We have spent the last twelve months working on a comprehensive solution. Today marks a milestone as we launch the country’s first AI-powered spam-free network, which will protect our customers from the continuous onslaught of intrusive and unwanted communications.”
How It Works Bharti Airtel's spam detection solution features a dual-layer protection system. It consists of two filters: one at the network layer and another at the IT systems layer. Every call and SMS is processed through this dual-layered AI shield. In just 2 milliseconds, the solution processes 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls every day, CEO Vittal said.
“This processing is equivalent to handling 1 trillion records in real-time using AI technology. Our solution has successfully identified 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMS messages each day. Ensuring the security of our customers is our top priority,” Vittal added.
