According to the media report, on December 17, the Bombay High Court while hearing the plea for a probe by the Central Investigation Agency (CBI) in the Vidarbha irrigation scam case, sought a response from the state government of Maharashtra. Hearing on Monday, a bench of Justices ZA Haq and MG Giratkar had asked the state government to file a reply in this regard by 15 January.

Regarding the matter, a senior ACB official said that the Director-General of the agency Parambir Singh filed an affidavit before the Nagpur bench saying that former irrigation minister Pawar has been given a clean chit in the case related to 12 irrigation projects under VIDC. The affidavit is dated 19 December. It added that no criminal liability was disclosed during the investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Team in relation to Ajit Pawar's role. The ACB had earlier filed an affidavit on the same bench, in which it had submitted irrigation projects in the Vidarbha region. Pawar's role in the alleged irregularities in giving approval was denied.
