Alleged Rapist absconding for last 7 months caught by police

NEW DELHI: A 46-year-old wanted man who had been absconding for the past seven months in connection with a rape case reported to Vasant Kunj North police station, has been apprehended by the Delhi Police's Crime Branch, an official said on Saturday.

The accused, named as Ravi Lakhina, a resident of the Janakpuri area, was also listed as a "Proclaimed Offender,"  and he was known for especially luring widows onto matrimonial websites,  police said.

At the Vasant Kunj North police station, a complaint was registered on April 7, in which the woman alleged she is a widow and living alone. She met with the accused person on a matrimonial site. The accused enticed the victim into meetings and sexually attacked her, said Special Commissioner of Police Ravindra Singh Yadav (Crime).

The victim later came to know that the accused is already married, has two wives, and has two children. He assaulted her under the guise of marriage after cheating her with a false profile.

"Recently, the police squad set a trap after receiving information that wanted culprit Ravi could visit Sector 48 in Gurugram. When Ravi saw the police squad, he was seen and attempted to flee but was caught, said Yadav.

"On questioning, it was come to  know that he used to make his fake handsome profile with changed names on matrimonial sites and commit fraud with women. On the matrimonial profile, the accused declared himself as divorcee," Yadav added.
