Amazon to create software for its consumer robots in India

BANGALORE: E-commerce behemoth Amazon announced on Monday that it will construct a new consumer robotics software development center here in a bid to provide global solutions. Amazon's international Robotics branch, which unveiled its first robot Astro last year, will benefit from the India center.

"We introduced our first consumer robot last year, but it won't be the last. This new consumer robotics software development center will aid in the growth of our consumer robotics division while also attracting top talent to work on cutting-edge technologies "Amazon's Vice President of Consumer Robotics, Ken Washington, stated.

Astro is intended to assist clients with multiple tasks, including home monitoring and keeping in touch with family members. It combines recent developments in artificial intelligence, computer vision, sensor technology, voice and edge computing in a package that is intended to be useful and convenient.

"India is an innovation hub, and establishing the center here would assist Amazon in providing better consumer robotics experiences for customers all over the world," Washington noted. Astro has Alexa integrated with uses-smart navigation technologies to get around the house.

The user can send Astro to check on specified rooms, people, or things while they are gone, and they can receive notifications if Astro identifies an unknown person or certain sounds. "Use the Astro app to set out of boundaries zones to help Astro know where it's not allowed to go," according to Amazon. "Turn off mics, cameras, and movements with one push of a button and use the Astro app to set out of bounds zones to let Astro know where it's not allowed to go."
