Ambedkar statue of 125 feet to be installed near Hussain Sagar: Koppula Eshwar

Hyderabad: Telangana state government will install a 125 feet tall Ambedkar statue near Hussainsagar. Tender has been finalized for this. Scheduled Castes Welfare Minister Koppula Easwar on Thursday said the state government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the project to set up the largest Ambedkar statue in the heart of the city. The minister said the statue and associated structures would explain the greatness of Ambedkar and the constitution he wrote.

He said that the statue would be installed in about a year or 15 months. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has directed to complete the project at the earliest. Ishwar along with officials visited the site where the statue would be installed. He said that as per the plan of the government, a 50-feet high base statue of Parliament would be erected. This statue will be on the basement building of the Parliament House. He directed the officials to coordinate to install the statue on time.

Hussainsagar is a heart-shaped lake in Hyderabad, built by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah in 1563. A large monolithic statue of Gautam Buddha, erected in 1992, is an 18 meter high monolithic statue of Lord Buddha on the Gibraltar Rock in the middle of the lake. The idea was a part of the Buddha Purnima project by NT Rama Rao in 1985. The statue was carved out of a white granite rock, weighing 450 tons. It was carved by 200 sculptors for two years. The statue was moved to Hyderabad in November 1988. After initial problems, the idol was erected on a red lotus pedestal on 12 April 1992. Hussain Sagar Lake is a popular place for boating, boating and sightseeing.
