Ammonia levels increases in Yamuna river, water scarcity in many parts of Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board is anticipating water supply in several parts of Delhi due to rising ammonia levels in Yamuna. The board said that high ammonia levels in saline water in Yamuna have affected operations at Chandrawal, Wazirabad and Okhla water treatment plants.

According to reports, "water can be made available at low pressure until the level of ammonia in the river is low, and in some areas the water supply is estimated to be affected by Wednesday," officials said.

The affected areas include civil lines, Hindu Rao Hospital and adjoining areas such as Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj and NDMC old and new Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar, Indrapuri, Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Amar Colony, Tughlakabad, Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar. There will also be water supply problems in Delhi Gate, Subhash Park, Model Town, Pink Bagh, Punjabi Bagh, Jahangierpuri, Moolchand, South Extension, Greater Kailash, Barari, Cantonment areas and parts of South Delhi. The DJB had to reduce or stop water production at its plants at least five times last year due to rising ammonia levels in the Yamuna.
