London: In a letter to the House of Lords, Amnesty International UK pleaded with its members to vote against a bill on illegal immigration that it dubbed "racist and xenophobic." Prior to the bill's second reading on Wednesday, the letter was sent. The bill would cause serious harm to refugees and victims of human trafficking, according to the organization's UK chief executive officer, Sacha Deshmukh, and it would also deny British residents their right to British citizenship. Deshmukh stated: "Despite many flaws, the programmes for Ukrainian refugees demonstrate that the government is capable of handling some international crises but not others.
