Chennai: The idol of Lord Krishna, stolen in 1966 from a temple in Tamil Nadu, has been found in a museum in America. This ancient idol of Lord Krishna dancing was from the time of the Chola Empire. Tamil Nadu idol department during the CID investigation came to know that 6 idols were stolen from Sri Ekantha Ramaswamy temple in Rameswaram. One of these idols of Lord Krishna has been found in the Indianapolis Museum of Art in America. Efforts are now being made to bring the statue back to India. The executive officer of the temple, G Narayani, had given a complaint on November 23 that more than three ancient idols were stolen from the temple in 1966. Investigating which the idol department CID has got this success. There were no pictures of the stolen idols near the temple. In such a situation, the police extracted photographs of the idols of the temple from the photo archive of the French Institute of Puducherry. Seeing the picture, it was found that in 1958 there were 12 idols in the temple. Out of which 6 idols were stolen. During the investigation, the police searched the websites of museums all over the world. Meanwhile, a photo similar to the statue of Lord Krishna dancing appeared on the website of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Experts found that it was a photo of the stolen statue and that the statue was bought by the museum. Now CID is trying to trace the remaining five idols. Legal documents are being prepared to prove the ownership of the stolen statue. Soon they will be handed over to the US government and a demand will be made to return the statue. DGP Jayanth Murali has praised his team for locating the statue within two weeks and preparing a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty and has announced a medal for them.
