Andhra Pradesh High Court Grants Regular Bail to Ex-Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in Skill Development Scam

Guntur: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted regular bail to former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation scam case. Initially, the High Court had provided interim bail on medical grounds for four weeks, and now it has made the interim bail absolute.

According to the court order, Naidu is released on regular bail on the already furnished bail bond. The conditions imposed during the interim bail, such as refraining from making public comments related to the case or organizing/participating in public rallies and meetings, will continue until November 28. These conditions will be relaxed from November 29.

The High Court directed Naidu to submit his medical reports to the Vijayawada Special Court by November 28, altering the requirement to submit the reports to the Superintendent of Rajamahendravaram central prison.

Naidu was arrested in the Skill Development Corporation scam case on September 9 and was released on interim medical bail on October 31. The Andhra Pradesh Police allege misappropriation of funds from the skill development corporation during Naidu's tenure as chief minister in 2015, causing a purported loss of Rs 371 crore to the state exchequer.

Earlier, Naidu's plea for quashing the FIR in the Skill Development Scam case was rejected by the High Court, prompting him to approach the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on Naidu’s plea after hearing arguments from both parties. Naidu has also sought anticipatory bail in the FiberNet case, with the top court asking the state police not to arrest him until delivering its order on his plea seeking the quashing of the FIR in the Skill Development scam case. The case is scheduled for a hearing on November 30.
