Shortly after dropping support for the IGTV application, Instagram has removed its standalone Boomerang as well as Hyperlapse apps from Apple's App Store and Google Play. Instagram spokeswoman Christine Pai said in a statement to The Verge that, “We have removed support for the standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps to better focus our efforts on the main app. Boomerang is still in Stories in Stories. -The app is supported and built into a standalone app in the Layout Store. We're going to continue working on new ways for people to be creative and have fun on Instagram." Boomerang was very popular: Boomerang launched from Instagram back in 2014 and has also allowed users to create mini videos in bursts of 10 shots. With 301 million lifetime global downloads, Boomerang was a popular app and people were still downloading the app when it was removed. Launched in 2014, Hyperlapse lets users create professional-looking time-lapse videos and, perhaps more importantly, offers impressive video stabilization. Meanwhile, automatic captions for videos are also being introduced in the Instagram feed. They are also going to be enabled by default for creators. Auto-generated captions are going to be available in 'select' languages initially, but Instagram hopes to expand them to more languages and countries. Access should improve for extra-deaf and hard of hearing users, who will be given more options for spoken video. The makers themselves are not going to need to add captions. However, Instagram also noted that this should help those who prefer to watch videos with only sound. Cryptocurrency prices today: Bitcoin down 5%, Terra is up.
