NEW DELHI: In an embarrassing incident, Air India's Sydney-Delhi flight landed back here without any passengers, as a crew member was found to be Covid positive in Australia, sources said. The crew members on the flight which landed back on Tuesday were subjected to RT-PCR tests in Australia. After a crew member was detected positive, the Australian authorities refused to allow passengers to board the aircraft. According to sources, the Covid-19 positive crew member was asked to quarantine in Sydney while the rest were allowed to leave. The on-arrival test reports came a day later when the crew was at Sydney airport to operate this aircraft back to Delhi with passengers. One of the cabin crew members tested positive. “As per Australian rules, this aircraft was denied permission to fly to Delhi with passengers. While the crew member/s testing positive are quarantined there only, Australia asks airlines in such cases to operate the aircraft back to home country as a ferry flight (without passengers) and cargo is allowed to be carried on it,” said sources.
