Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday (October 13) said that the Karnataka High Court's decision on the ongoing hijab controversy in the country is not right. Owaisi said that it seemed that the hearing, in this case, will be completed today. But the judgment of a judge to the Supreme Court has come in our favour (in favour of hijab) and the judgment of the High Court (in favour of the Karnataka government) was absolutely wrong. It misuses the commentary of the Quran. That shouldn't have happened. Owaisi further said that Muslim girls of Karnataka are wearing hijab, they are wearing it because it is written in the Quran. Allah has commanded them to wear the hijab. At the same time, Owaisi also attacked the BJP. Owaisi said the BJP made hijab an unnecessary issue. That is my opinion. He further said that when the judgment will be uploaded completely. Then I will talk about it in detail. The apex court on Thursday delivered a split verdict on petitions challenging the Karnataka High Court verdict. The Supreme Court referred the sensitive matter to the Chief Justice so that a larger bench could be constituted. Earlier today, Justice Hemant Gupta of the apex court dismissed a petition challenging the Karnataka High Court order upholding the state government's order banning the wearing of hijab in educational institutions in the state. At the same time, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia accepted them and said that ultimately hijab is a matter of choice. The high court had refused to lift the ban, saying wearing hijab was not part of the mandatory religious practice in Islam.
