Aslan defeated Andy Murray

Former world number one Andy Murray's dream of winning his first ATP title since 2019 remains unfulfilled. Britain's 34-year-old Murray lost 3-6, 3-6 to Russian and top seed Aslan Karatsev in the Sydney Tennis Classic title clash.

Murray did not have a good start and Aslan has dominated against him from the start. Murray, who entered the title clash for the first time since playing the final of the European Cup in October 2019, has been seen struggling from the first set. In the meantime, he made four double faults and lost the first set 3-6. In the second set too, 28-year-old Karatsev of Russia took an early lead and shot fast from the back of the court to beat Murray. Though Murray, who won 3 majors, also played some strongly, he failed to stop the Russian in an hour and 32 minutes of play. World number 20 Aslan Karatsev has won two consecutive sets to clinch the third career title.

The women's final has also seen a strong clash. But world number nine Paula Barosa has clinched the Sydney title. Barossa defeated world number four Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-3 4-6 7-6(4) in the title clash.
