Assam: Dibrugarh University declared containment zone after students test positive for corona

Two female students Dibrugarh University’s Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts tested positive for coronavirus. After the students tested positive, the university has been declared a containment zone. 

 Dibrugarh University registrar in-charge Jiten Hazarika released a notification regarding the same. According to the notification, the department will remain a containment zone with effect from Monday for a period of 7 days. All students, teachers and employees of the department have been advised to keep themselves in home isolation for 7 days and go for the standard RT-PCR test within three days. 

The Dibrugarh University unit of the All Assam Students’ Union on Monday submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor in-charge, Prof RNS Yadav seeking relaxation in the admission fee for the ongoing semester.The student body said that students of all 33 departments and study centres of the university have been affected adversely due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh district has reported 14,989 till Feb 21. The total number of deaths in the district stands at 125.
