Assam govt. announcement, now this help will be given to women and girls in flood relief

Guwahati: The Assam government has also included sanitary napkins in the list of relief materials provided to women and adolescent girls affected by floods and other natural calamities. A notification said this. The order was issued recently by The Department of Revenue and Disaster Management Commissioner and Secretary M S Manivannan.

Taking note of this, the order has informed all District Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Sub Divisional Officers (SDO) (Civil) that the menstrual management of adolescent girls in flood prone areas due to emergency had not been included in the relief measures so far. As per the order, women and adolescent girls face various and health problems in taking care of menstrual hygiene due to floods.

As per the order, dc and SDO level officers have been asked to add sanitary napkins in lift of relief material from GR (Free Relief Material) Fund to maintain the dignity of women and adolescent girls due to floods etc. As cyclone Yaas proceeded towards Assam, the districts of Seemanchal received heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. 26 in 24 hours in the city by Purnia Meteorological Centre. 1 mm rainfall was recorded which is the second highest rainfall in pre-monsoon this year. On 10th May, 27 mm rainfall was recorded.
