Assam: Mob Attacks Forest Dept Officials, 6 Injured

KOKRAJHAR: Six people allegedly injured after forest official opened fired to respond attack by a mob attempting to occupy its land in Assam.  The incident occurred in Assam's Kokrajhar district at Goraibazar village near Indo-Bhutan Border.

The incident occured when forest official opened fire to control the situation. However, no casualty was reported in the firing incident. Forest official stated that when they asked the locals to clear the forest area, they refused and attacked the team members leaving six of them injured.  An official vehicle was also damaged in the attack. Further, the forest department personnel were later forced to opened fire to disperse the mob while a police team also reached the village.

Police arrested  16 persons in connection with the incident so far. Earlier, Cabinet Minister, Chandramohan Patowary's informed the house that Assam's 83,918.7199 hectare of land is currently under possession of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.
