Assam: Nagaon forest guards attacked by suspected illegal fishermen

Unidentified people attacked another forest guard in Nagaon's Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary.Islam Ali has been identified as the forest guard. According to forest officials, Islam was attacked late Monday evening on his way back to the camp from a market.

A group of five to six unidentifiable people assaulted him.Later that evening, Islam was found by his colleagues and was brought to a medical facility in Dagaon.He is in a critical state, but treatment is underway.According to a forest authority, the incident occurred in the same area where two other guards were recently attacked.

The department believes the perpetrators are illegal fishers from a nearby village, according to the official.After being freed, he informed them that Ali had told them about it. While beating him, one of the attackers invoked the forest department's ban on unauthorised fishing within the sanctuary.
