Guwahati: Police have arrested two accused who attacked a doctor in Biswanath district of Assam. Dr Basant Goswami, 81, was attacked on June 9, 2021. He was knocked to by a mob enraged by the covid restrictions in the district. Later, taking action on their complaint, the police found 3 persons accused in the case. Out of these, 2 have been arrested. The search for 1 is on. According to reports, Senior Medical Officer Dr Goswami was attacked by a mob at Majuligarh Tea Estate on June 9. He was returning from his evening walk at the time of the incident. That's when the mob attacked them. Meanwhile, his servant somehow saved his life. He is currently undergoing treatment at Biswanath hospital. The aggrieved doctor said that some people is angry with the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the government as they are not able to open their shops. They believes doctors at Tea Garden had advised the management to impose such a ban. On June 9, when they saw the doctor returning from a walk, they suddenly attacked him. He had earlier visited the hospital management on the sanctions. Dr Goswami had lodged a complaint with the Biswanath Shariali police station after the incident. The accused have been booked under sections of IPC. Biswanath district SP Ripul Das arrested two persons on Friday. They have been identified as Ajit and Sujeeth Tanti.
