Assam’s Dholai Lights Up with Over 200 Sky Lanterns to Inspire Voter Participation for Bypoll

In a unique effort to boost voter turnout, over 200 sky lanterns illuminated the evening sky in Dholai, Assam, on Friday. This initiative by the Cachar district administration aimed to motivate residents to vote in the upcoming bypoll for the Dholai Assembly constituency, scheduled for November 13.

The event, part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, saw 208 lanterns being launched from the BNMP School Field. Each lantern represented a polling station within the constituency, reinforcing the message that every vote matters in shaping the community's future.

As the lanterns ascended precisely at 5:00 pm, they symbolized a reminder for all eligible voters to engage actively in the democratic process. District Commissioner (DC) Mridul Yadav addressed attendees, urging them to set an example with a high voter turnout. "Every single vote has the power to shape our community’s future. Let us come together to demonstrate our commitment to democracy," Yadav said.

The SVEEP initiative, highly praised by Yadav, has been instrumental in encouraging civic participation and empowering citizens to contribute positively. Additional District Commissioner Van Lal Limpuia Nampui, Election Officer Masi Topno, and other officials were also present at the event.
