Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill puts up in Lok Sabha: Mandaviya

The government introduced the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill on Wednesday, which calls for the creation of a national registry and registration body for all clinics and medical professionals involved in the sector.

The Bill was tabled in Parliament in September 2020, and the lower House submitted it to the Standing Committee, according to Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who is moving the Bill for discussion and passage in the Lok Sabha. The Standing Committee made numerous recommendations, which the government has taken into account, he said. In March of this year, the Bill's Standing Committee Report was submitted.

The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2020, seeks to regulate and supervise assisted reproductive technology (ART) clinics and banks, as well as to prevent misuse, ensure safe and ethical practise of assisted reproductive technology services, and to consider matters related to or incidental to those services. "Many such ART clinics have been operating unregulated in the country." Regulation of such facilities was thought to be necessary because it has an impact on the health of those who undergo the operation," he stated.
