Scan and Scam? Scan QR Code and receive money; SBI alerted

New Delhi: Financial inclusion accelerated a lot after PM Jan Dhan Yojana came into India. Due to this, bank accounts of those people who were still cut off from banking services were opened. Four years after the scheme was introduced, more than 80 per cent of the country's population had access to bank accounts. On the other hand, demonetisation and digitization of the corona epidemic also intensified. However, along with these, the cases of banking fraud also gained a lot of momentum. India's largest bank SBI on Thursday warned all account holders in the wake of fraud cases.

SBI has launched a campaign to educate consumers in financial matters under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. As part of the same campaign, SBI tweeted on Thursday, "Scan QR code and get money? That's a wrong number. Beware of QR code scams. Think before scanning, do not scan unknown and unverified QR codes. Be careful and stay safe with SBI.''

SBI also shared a short infographics video along with this tweet. The video shows the process of paying by scanning the QR code, saying, 'Scan and scam? Never scan the unknown QR code nor enter the UPI PIN.' A day before this, SBI had made a similar post, which makes people aware of the methods of fraud and also explains the ways to avoid them. SBI's second tweet said, "Your safety is our priority. Report cyber crimes on http://cybercrime.gov.in. Be aware of fraudulent offers of KYC updates through phone, message or email. Keep a strong password and change it regularly. Use SBI's official portal for contact details.''
