Australia call up Zimbabwe-born all-rounder, Hilton Cartwright for Melbourne Test against Pakistan

Chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said the 24-year-old Western Australia based all-rounder would join the squad for the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan after a harder than expected finale to the Brisbane Test where Pakistan made more than 400.

"The bowlers overcame a high workload in Brisbane and despite the fact that everybody has pulled up alright, on reflection we needed to give ourselves the choice of incorporating an all-rounder in Melbourne to facilitate that workload fairly," said Hohns.

"To do that we needed a batting all-rounder, somebody to bowl crease up and fit for batting in the main six also, and in the wake of considering a few names we reached the conclusion that Hilton fits that bill.

"We have seen a lot of him, he has performed well this season and we trust that if called upon he will make an amazing showing with regards to."
