World No. 1 Djokovic, who last won a Grand Slam a year ago, thrashed Medvedev in straight sets to capture his 18th Grand Slam title. He defeated the Mendevedeb 7-5, 6-2, and 6-2 to win an unprecedented ninth Australian Open title at Melbourne Park on Sunday. Djokovic ace thrashed Aslan Karatsev in the semi-final to set a date with Medvedev for the summit clash. Even though the summit clash was tipped to be an absolute slobber knocker of a final, Djokovic ended Medvedev's 20-match winning streak in the Australian Open final 2021 on Sunday. Djokovic's 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win at the Rod Laver Arena moves the player closer to the record Grand Slam tally of veterans Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Regarded as the two of the greatest tennis payers in the modern era, Nadal and Federer have won 20 Grand Slam in their respective careers. The nine-time Australian Open champion is only two Grand Slams away from levelling the record tally of tennis superstars Nadal and Federer.
