The Society of Indian Automobiles Manufactures (SIAM) wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi regarding the ban on registration of any BS-III compliant vehicle by Supreme Court of India. In the letter, they have requested a meeting with PM Modi in order to discuss the issue. SIAM said they are being penalised despite the law. It should be noted that Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has earlier allowed the sales of BS-III vehicles, but Supreme Courts sudden ban has over-ruled Ministry’s notification, which according to SIAM, is resulting in a huge loss for the Automobile Industry. In the letter, SIAM also requested to create a National Automotive Regulatory Body, and they should be charged with the decision of guidelines and timeline for an implication of all the rules for the Industry.
