NEW DELHI: There was uproar when Azam Khan stood up on behalf of the Samajwadi Party (SP) during the debate on the triple talaq bill in the Lok Sabha. Azam Khan started with a sher, "Tu idhar Udhar Ki Bat Na Kar..." But what Azam said was that there was an uproar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While Azam Khan was speaking, Deputy speaker Rama Devi was sitting in the chair of the president. Azam Khan made a controversial remark about BJP MP Rama Devi sitting on the lok sabha speaker's seat. He said, "Azam Khan said, Aap mujhe itni acchi lagti hain ki mera mann karta hai ki aap ki aankhon mein aankhein dale rahoon (I like you so much that I feel to stair into your eyes)." which the people of the ruling party protested. Azam Khan later said that he was ready to resign if he had said anything that was inappropriate for the proceedings of the House. Having said that, Azam Khan left the house and walked out. BJP MPs, including Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Arjun Meghwal, strongly protested against Azam Khan's statement. After which Rama Devi directed the removal of Azam Khan's words from the proceedings of the House. On the other hand, Ravi Shankar Prasad said Azam Khan has a lot of experience in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and The Assembly and he should immediately apologise on the matter. When Azam Khan's statement was uproared, his party SP President Akhilesh Yadav came to his rescue and said that Azam Khan did not say anything that hurt the dignity of the House.
