Bank Holidays: Prepare in Advance, Banks to Remain Closed THESE days

Bank Holidays for August and September 2023: As per the official holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks are scheduled to be closed for a total of eleven days in the upcoming month. It's important to note that these holidays do not include the regular weekends of the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as Sundays. The RBI emphasizes that many of these bank holidays are specific to certain regions and may vary from state to state and from one bank to another.

In September, various states will observe bank closures in observance of events such as Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji's Birthday, and Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi. Listed below are the bank holidays for August, September 2023 under the framework of the Negotiable Instruments Act:

Apart from these eleven holidays in September, there will also be seven weekends, which means that banks will be closed for a total of 18 days during the month. Here is the list of weekends for September 2023:

The Reserve Bank of India has categorized the holidays into three groups: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks' Closing of Accounts.

Further, the Reserve Bank of India had announced that there is a window until the end of September to deposit or exchange Rs.2000 banknotes. The RBI's official press release from May 19 states, "The facility for deposit and/or exchange of Rs 2000 banknotes shall be available for members of the public up to September 30, 2023. The facility for exchange of Rs. 2000 banknotes shall be provided by all banks to the public through their branches."
