BCCI willing to host ‘Mini IPL’ in September, Says report!

The IPL is an annual event watched by cricket fans all over the world, but one could witness another similar competition in September, albeit on a lesser scale. The BCCI are mulling a 'mini IPL' in September, with the competition set to be played overseas.

If they manage to pull it off, BCCI will generate immense revenue. In the past, when the IPL was not hosted in India for election reasons, the governing body have shifted the competition to South Africa and the UAE, and those venues proved to be a huge success.

And for the mini IPL, if things go according to plan, one might witness the US hosting the mega event in September. "In the month of September, the BCCI is willing to host a mini IPL or IPL overseas with all the eight teams participating," BCCI president Anurag Thakur said.

"It will be a shorter format, not home and away matches but a lesser number of matches. In a two-week window we should be able to complete it," he said.

The BCCI move was on the cards with the scrapping of the Champions League T20 last year. The full-fledged IPL lasts about for almost two months and the ninth edition was held in India from April 9 to May 29.
