Bengal elections: TMC demands simultaneous elections in last 3 phases

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) finalized the final three phases of elections on April 22, 26, and 29 before an all-party meeting called by the state's Chief Electoral Officer Arij Aftab to maintain the Corona Protocol during the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal. It is proposed to hold it together. The ruling TMC has proposed to take the last three phases in one or two phases in view of the increase of corona cases in the state for the past one month.

In this regard, CM Mamata Banerjee herself tweeted that, "We strongly opposed the decision to hold the West Bengal elections in 8 phases of the epidemic. Now, in view of the huge increase in the cases of covid-19, I Indian I urge the Election Commission to consider voting for the remaining three phases simultaneously. This will protect the public from further exposure to covid-19". The TMC supremo had also said in an interview earlier that, "It is up to the Election Commission to decide whether the final three-phase election will be merged into one or two phases in the backdrop of the rise in covid cases".

She had said that if the remaining steps are merged then we have no problem. Along with this, Mamata had also said that "When elections are going on, we are forced to campaign. People are coming to Bengal in large numbers from states like Bihar, UP, Jharkhand during the BJP's campaign. I do not know why the Election Commission did not consider the Corona Factor first".
