NEW DELHI: The Centre today filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) against its verdict there would be no automatic arrest on any complaint filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as Doordarshan News reported. Despite the above fact across the nationwide protests in different parts are still underway. Visuals of protest from Ghaziabad The Centre's petition was filed even as several organizations, with the support of some political parties, called a countrywide Shutdown today in protest against the SC order. “I wish to convey that today we've filed a petition on the judgement by Supreme Court on the SC/ST act. We have filed a comprehensive review petition which will be presented before the court by the senior lawyers of the government”, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Law Minister on SC/ST Act as tweeted BY ANI. The government is likely to have told the top court that the order banning automatic arrest and registration of cases for alleged harassment of SCs/STs will dilute the law which aims to protect the marginalised.
