Bharat Bandh on SC/ST Act: Rajnath Singh urges all political parties and groups to maintain peace

NEW DELHI: The Centre today filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) against its verdict there would be no automatic arrest on any complaint filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as Doordarshan News reported.

Rajnath Singh urged all political parties and groups to maintain peace as still across the nation protests in different parts are underway.

 “We have filed the review petition in Supreme Court. I appeal to all political parties & groups to maintain peace and not incite violence”, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Bharat bandh over SC/ST protection act as ANI tweeted.

The Centre's petition was filed even by several organizations, with the support of some political parties, called a countrywide Shutdown today in protest against the SC order.

Before Rajnath Singh, Ravi Shankar Prasad assured about filing the review petition.

“I wish to convey that today we've filed a petition on the judgement by Supreme Court on the SC/ST act. We have filed a comprehensive review petition which will be presented before the court by the senior lawyers of the government”, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Law Minister on SC/ST Act as tweeted BY ANI.

 Following Bharat Bandh protest over SC/ST Protection Act two dead in Morena Madhya Pradesh, after this curfew imposed in the area.

Curfew imposed in parts of Gwalior & Section 144 which prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in the area imposed in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.

The government is likely to have told the top court that the order banning automatic arrest and registration of cases for alleged harassment of SCs/STs will dilute the law which aims to protect the marginalised.
