Gopalganj: A Bihar court on Wednesday sentenced two liquor smugglers from Delhi and Jaunpur in UP to life imprisonment in an 18-month-old liquor smuggling case. The court of Gopalganj Product Special Additional District and Sessions Judge (II) Lavkush Kumar on Wednesday sentenced two smugglers to life imprisonment in a nearly 18-month-old liquor smuggling case. Special Public Prosecutor of the product department Ravi Bhushan Srivastava said that the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh each on the two smugglers Rajesh Kumar and Mohit Rajput. He said, 685 liters of foreign liquor was recovered from a car due to vehicle checking near Banjari Chowk in the Nagar police station area on August 21 last year. Police had arrested liquor smuggler Rajesh Kumar of Sector-6 in New Delhi and Mohit Rajput of Pali Pratappur village in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The fir in the case was lodged at Nagar police station. The court pronounced the sentence on Wednesday after hearing the arguments of Special Public Prosecutor Ravi Bhushan Srivastava from the prosecution and advocate Anup Kumar Singh from the defense. It may be recalled that on December 18, the Gopalganj Product Special Court had sentenced three liquor smugglers from Haryana to 10 years each and a fine of Rs 5 lakh each. It may be recalled that the Bihar government is very serious about prohibition in the state. The Government is constantly taking decisions in this regard. The government has also issued a guideline to the police in this regard.
