SC gives major blow to govt on Madhya Pradesh Panchayat elections

Bhopal: The screw of reservation OBC in Madhya Pradesh panchayat elections has been stuck for a long time. The Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution on reservation OBC yesterday. The proposal was moved by CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on which the opposition also expressed its approval. As soon as the House reassembled yesterday, leader of opposition Kamal Nath raised the issue of reservation OBC in panchayat elections and questioned the intention of the Government. Earlier, after the controversy over OBC reservation in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that Panchayat elections in Madhya Pradesh would be held with OBC reservation only, for this the government would go to court.

Shivraj government had requested for urgent hearing by filing a review petition, on which the government has got a setback from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has refused an urgent hearing on the review petition by the government. Now the matter will be heard on January 3. The Supreme Court's refusal to urgently hear the Shivraj government's review petition regarding OBC reservation in Panchayat elections has escalated the matter further. Now the regular hearing, in this case, will be held on January 3.

On Thursday, a resolution was passed unanimously in the assembly regarding the politics involved in the OBC case. The government can present it as a supporting document in the Supreme Court. On the issue of OBC reservation in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had talked about going to court for this. Home Minister Narottam Mishra had given this news a day earlier. The state government had also held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the OBC issue. Now the matter has gone to the Supreme Court on behalf of the government.
