Patna: Flood like situation in Bihar has now created a hue and cry. The Ganga has taken a violent turn here and this has led to the formation of new highest levels at many places in the state. The rising water level of Sone and Punpun in the surrounding major rivers is also seen to be making the situation serious. Let me tell you that the Ganga, which has been growing rapidly for two days, is flowing far above the red mark from Allahabad to Farakka last Thursday. The river is more than a metre above the red mark in all places except Munger. Talking about Patna and Buxar, water has started entering the houses of the Diara area of coastal districts. According to the information received, about one foot of water has also climbed on the Buxar-Kochus State Highway. Floodwater has started flowing at many places on NH-80 in Bhagalpur and this is causing Bhagalpur district headquarters to cut off connectivity to other districts. Kharif crops in Diara have been submerged and dozens of panchayats in Mohanpur and Mohiuddinnagar blocks of Samastipur district have been cut off from the district headquarters. The water level of Ganga is said to be flowing two metres above the danger mark. However, Ganga has reached an all-time high at Gandhighat, Hathidah and Kahalgaon in Patna. The river is all set to set a new highest level in Hathidah by today i.e. Let me tell you that its water level here is only seven cm below the highest level of 43.17 metres. Punpun and Sone are also growing at a high speed even after going well above the red mark in Patna. According to DM Aman Sameer, "The water level of Ganga is receding at a speed of three cm per hour in Allahabad. The impact will also be visible on other districts along the Ganga in the state including Buxar in the next 24 to 48 hours.''
