President appoints Bimal Julka as Chief Information Commissioner

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday administered the oath of office to Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) to Bimal Julka in the morning. Please tell that Bimal Julka is a 1979 batch retired IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. He has been posted as Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan release said that President Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office of CIC to the Central Information Commission in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The post of the head of the commission was vacant after Sudhir Bhargava retired on January 11. There are 11 sanctioned posts of Information Commissioners including the Commission (CIC). There are currently six Information Commissioners.

For your information, let us tell you that after the appointment of Julka as CIC, the posts of five more Information Commissioners are vacant. The Central Information Commission was formed under the Right to Information Act and comes under the jurisdiction of all central public authorities. Congress leader Sadan and MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary objected to the appointment of Bimal Julka. Chaudhary had said that the search committee did not even consider the name.
