BJP, Congress both won 16 seats each in Gandhinagar

Election for Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar municipal corporation has thrown a drooping decision with both Congress and the BJP winning 16 seats each in the 32 seats civic body.  Voting for the civic body was held on Sunday in which 52 % turnout was registered.

The results for the civic body are seen as setback for the Anandiben Patel government as the BJP was ruling the local body but could not retain power.

As according to sources, the state urban development department will conduct a draw to select mayor and other office bearers in the civic body.

The opposition party Congress had won the last civic body polls in 2011 but mayor and several other municipal councilors of Congress had quit to BJP ahead of the parliamentary polls in 2014 and since then the BJP was ruling the municipal corporation of the capital city.
