BJP leader now in hospital after being shot at in Ghaziabad

New Delhi, BJP leader of Uttar Pradesh, Brijpal Teotia, was critically injured when AK-47-wielding assailants attacked his SUV on Rawli Road off NH-58 near Delhi on Thursday.

Five others, including four private gunners of Teotia, were also injured and admitted to Sarvodaya Hospital in Ghaziabad.

Teotia, who took at least five bullets, was later taken to the Fortis Hospital, Noida.

According to the police, the attackers came in a Toyota Fortuner SUV and opened fire at the Scorpio which Mr Teotia was travelling in. They managed to escape.

"Rifles, AK 47 have been used in the attack. We are trying to arrest the culprits. Weapons used in the attack have been recovered," said senior UP police officer Daljeet Chaudhary.

Union Minister Mahesh Sharma, who met the wounded leader last night, said, "His life is in danger. He has been taken to operation theatre."
