' Rape can be stopped by values, not by sword': BJP MLA on Hathras case

Lucknow: A statement by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA of Ballia assembly seat has sparked controversy in the backdrop of an alleged gang rape and murder incident with a young girl from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. MLA Surendra Singh, while speaking to presspersons in Chandpur on Saturday, said that "the rape can stop with the values and not with the sword".

The Congress has strongly condemned this statement of Surendra Singh. The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee has tweeted from its official Twitter handle late night saying that, “Due to such poor thinking of BJP and RSS, Uttar Pradesh has become the most vulnerable place for daughters. There should be a social boycott of such leaders who force a rapist mentality. "It is noteworthy that MLA Surendra Singh has said in his statement," Parents should teach their young daughter how to live in a cultural environment. There was no rape in Hathras, it has been confirmed by lab and post mortem report.

These days the politics on the Hathras gang rape case is happening fiercely. All opposition parties are attacking the Yogi government of the Center and the state on this issue. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have also met the victim's family, while Akhilesh Yadav can also visit Hathras today.
