Mumbai: After ousting Uddhav Thackeray from power through Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra politics, BJP is now eyeing capturing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) through Raj Thackeray. Let us tell you that for the last three and a half decades, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena has been ruling the BMC unilaterally. The Congress and NCP governments came and went in the state, but the Shiv Sena continued to dominate the BMC. In such a situation, in the changed political environment, BJP's effort is to snatch BMC from Shiv Sena by joining hands with Raj Thackeray's party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The point to be noted here is that the capture of BMC is simply a means to rule Mumbai and establish its political dominance. Mumbai is the birthplace of Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray raised his voice in favour of the street vendors of Mumbai to strengthen the party's base. Shiv Sena was formed in 1966 and only five years later in 1971, the party was successful in making Dr SS Gupta the Mayor of BMC. After this Shiv Sena did not look back. In 1985, Shiv Sena strengthened its hold on BMC so much that no one could break it again. But now in the changing political environment of the state, BJP has prepared a plan to break into this strong fort of Shiv Sena, for which efforts are being made to take Raj Thackeray along.
