NEW DELHI: The BJP candidates withdrew their names just ahead of the Wednesday (April 26) Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections for the post of mayor and deputy mayor. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ran Shikha Rai and Soni Pandey for mayor and deputy mayor of the MCD, respectively, despite having adequate representation in the House. Currently, Soni Pandey represents the northeastern Delhi ward of Sonia Vihar on the civic body, while Shikha Rai represents the Greater Kailash-1 ward. The Delhi BJP has made the decision to not run in the MCD mayoral and deputy mayoral elections. Despite our best efforts, the Aam Aadmi Party is not prepared to make the MCD functioning by approving the formation of the Ward Committees of the MCD, according to Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor. For the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chose Shelly Oberoi and Aaley Mohammad Iqbal as its candidates for mayor and deputy mayor, respectively. After Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal made the decision, the party chose to renominate the two "in recognition of their performance" in the MCD, Delhi administration.
