Bob Woodward Slams Trump’s Cabinet Picks, Calls Them Disrespectful to the American People

Former journalist and renowned author Bob Woodward expressed strong concerns about U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s recent choices for key positions in his potential second term. Speaking on MSNBC’s Inside With Jen Psaki on November 18, Woodward criticized Trump for surrounding himself with individuals who seem more focused on consolidating his power rather than bringing essential expertise to the roles.

Woodward Questions Trump’s Strategy

Woodward said, “Now, you have to ask yourself, why wouldn’t Trump want somebody who at least has some experience? He’s trying to recreate the imperial presidency. He is trying to say, ‘Ah. I can do whatever I want. It’s up to me alone.’” This comment raised doubts about Trump’s approach to leadership, especially in regard to cabinet selections.

Criticism of Key Appointments

A major point of contention for Woodward was the selection of Pete Hegseth, a former Army National Guard member with no prior Pentagon experience, for the role of Department of Defense head. Woodward said, “There are all kinds of people with various political persuasions who have enough experience to run the Pentagon, but he picked someone who isn’t even near it.” This choice raised serious concerns about the lack of qualifications in such a critical position.

Doubts About Tulsi Gabbard’s Appointment

Woodward also raised alarms about Tulsi Gabbard’s proposed appointment as Director of National Intelligence. He questioned her qualifications for the role, asking, “What is the goal? The goal is to give him all the say, all the power.” He further remarked, “It’s almost unconstitutional. Literally, it’s not, but look at it: Why do you want somebody who doesn’t know what they’re doing?”

A Scathing Critique of Trump’s Choices

Woodward did not hold back in his criticism, comparing the situation to a “check engine light” going off while driving into the “wrong store.” This analogy suggested that the appointment of unqualified individuals for important positions made little sense. He concluded his remarks by saying, “It is a form of giving his middle finger to the American people.”

Possible Reconsideration of Picks

Despite Woodward’s harsh critique, sources have indicated that Trump may be rethinking some of his cabinet choices. There is growing uncertainty around Howard Lutnick, Trump’s initial pick for Treasury Secretary. Hedge fund manager Scott Bessent has emerged as a potential alternative. Elon Musk, who has considerable influence over Trump’s decisions, voiced his opinion, saying, “My view [for what it’s worth] is that Bessent is a business-as-usual choice, whereas @howardlutnick will actually enact change. Business-as-usual is driving America bankrupt, so we need change one way or another.”
