Around 68 people have been admitted to the hospital in Kerala’s Ernakulam district on Tuesday after having food at Majilis Hotel, in North Paravoor. They have been admitted due to food poisoning from the food they has at the hotel. They all had symptoms of food poisoning after which local authorities have shut down the hotel following the incident. The incident had come after state government had launched a campaign against the restaurants and eateries selling contaminated food. Out of 68 people 28 people have been admitted to the Paravur Taluk hospital, in which 2 are children and 20 other to private hospitals. Monday evening people who have consumed from Kuzhimanthi, Alfaham and Shawai hotel were admitted to the hospital due to severe vomiting and diarrhea. These people have developed vomiting, diarrhea, body pain and uneasiness after eating the food. The license of these hotels has been canceled said by the State Health Minister. Actions has been taken after the report has been submitted by the food safety commissioner and a case is also been registered against the owner of the restaurant and the investigations still going on the incident. Food poisoning incidents have been reported from around the Kerala after which the Food safety department has been conducting inspections of hotels and restaurants in Kerala after these incidents. And when the food safety department has conducted an inspection in 189 restaurants across the state and the license of 2 hotels have cancelled with other 37 received a notice for lack of cleanliness. After the several happenings of food poisoning incidents, the state government on Friday issued new guidelines for catering services. Veena George, health minister of Kerala said that as per the new guidelines, a license for catering services has been made compulsory in the state and a health card is mandatory for the employees in restaurants and hotels. On January 4, the Food safety department of the Kerala government conducted an inspection in 429 establishments across the state and shut down 43 hotels following the death of woman in a suspected food poisoning incident at a religious event. In a recent incident, a nurse who was working at the Kottayam medical college has died after eating a dish from such a restaurant.
