Ayushmann Khurrana’s Doctor G and South Film Kantara hit the screen. On the one hand Ayushmann ‘s film failed to attract an audience. Meanwhile, Kantara is doing very well at box office. It has surpassed Ayushmann Khurrana’s film and Parineeti Chopra’s Code Name Tiranga. As per Box office reports, “Doctor G has collected Rs. 20.50 crores* at the box office and that’s a low total. This should ideally have been the weekend number for the film and even that would have been sub-optimal, though somewhat okay, given the current times. However, the trending so far indicates that at best the film would manage a lifetime of Rs. 26-28 crores.” On the other hand, Kantara (Hindi) has its eye on Rs. 30 crores lifetime at the least since momentum is on its side. The film opened almost 30% of Doctor G on the opening day but by the time the week was through, it came close to the 75% mark. So far, the film has collected Rs. 15 crores* at the box office and by the time the second week is through, it should gather good enough pace to have a bigger total than Doctor G. Speaking about Doctor G is based on medical campus comedy-drama, Doctor G is about the hilarious struggles of Dr. Uday Gupta, who wanted to specialize in Orthopaedic, but is stuck in an all-female class of Gynaecology. Ayushmann's Uday understands women aren't comfortable with male doctors when it comes to gynaecology. However, there's Shefali Shah as Dr Nadini to pull him and the audience out of this notion. She wants him to lose the male touch and take his responsibility as a doctor seriously. This awkward confrontation of Dr Uday with female physiology is what Doctor G is all about. Speaking about the film, Kantara, which translates to the mystical forest, tells the story of a local demigod (Bhoota) who trades forest land to the tribe's people with a king in 1870 in exchange for happiness. Many years later, when the king’s son grows greedy and wants the land back, he dies due to the wrath of Bhoota.
