Various people suspected that Shah Rukh's role in the film as Mohan Bhargav, a scientist who wielded Vanarastra, had a connection to his 2004 film Swades The director of the film speaking about Ayan Mukerji speaking about Shah Rukh Khan said, "In Swades, he (Shah Rukh) plays a NASA scientist called Mohan Bhargava, who decides to come back and work in India. Since I had worked on Swades as an assistant, I thought it would be a nice thing to throw in here." The director took to his Instagram and wrote, "We wrote that in our credits, 'Eternally grateful to Mr Shah Rukh Khan. Sometimes, people come and do something so generous and large-hearted. There is no way to ever repay what Shah Rukh Khan has done on Brahmastra. Unanimously, one of the favourite things in Brahmastra has been Shah Rukh sir's sequence." Ayan earlier said, “As a filmmaker, I am inviting everyone to come and watch it, including the people who are making all the noise and also the ones who aren’t convinced with our film. We want them to give us a chance, see the effort that we have put in, the kind of VFX we have done because I feel no film of that nature has done it and experience the way Indian mythology is depicted. Once you watch the film you are entitled to your opinion whether you like it or not and I am open to all kinds of suggestions." Brahmastra, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead role, released in theatres on September 9.
