New Delhi: The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken a significant step to make 'Bharat Atta' (flour) accessible nationwide at the price of Rs 27.50 per kilogram. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, on Monday, November 6, inaugurated mobile vans for flour distribution in the national capital. The flour will be made available to the public in 10-kilogram and 30-kilogram packs. Media reports indicate that 'Bharat Atta' will be accessible at around 2,000 outlets across the country. It will be distributed to the public through various cooperative institutions, including the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF), Safal, Mother Dairy, and others. Allocation of 2.5 lakh metric tons of wheat:- During this announcement, Union Minister Piyush Goyal revealed that 2.5 lakh metric tons of wheat have been allocated to various government agencies for this purpose. According to the Consumer Affairs Department, the current average price of flour in the country is Rs 35 per kilogram. Non-branded flour is available in the market for Rs 30-40 per kilogram, while branded flour costs Rs 40-50 per kilogram. In light of the rising cost of wheat and the subsequent increase in flour prices during the festive season, the government has decided to provide flour at a more affordable rate. Government is also providing affordable onions and pulses:- To ease the burden on consumers due to rising onion prices, the central government is selling onions at a rate of Rs 25 per kilogram. The National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) and NAFED are already selling buffer onions at this subsidized rate. NCCF is offering onions at discounted prices in 457 retail stores across 54 cities in 20 states, while NAFED is providing onions at reduced rates in 329 retail stores across 55 cities in 21 states. Kendriya Bhandar has also initiated the retail sale of onions from its outlets in Delhi-NCR as of last Friday. Furthermore, the government is making 'Bharat Dal' (gram pulses) available at a rate of Rs 60 per kilogram.
