BSF orders pay cut against a jawan for 'disrespecting PM'; PM Modi repeals it

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repealed the Border Security Force decision to cut-off seven days salary of a jawan who referred to Modi without affixing ‘Shri’ which means honourable in English.

Following the objection from PM Modi, BSF repealed its order and posted a tweet informing the same.

“This order has been rescinded. The concerned commandant has been cautioned for not dealing with the matter judiciously,” tweeted the security agency.

The BSF posted another tweet informing about PM Modi’s disapproval of the order. “Honourable PM had expressed his displeasure and directed BSF to immediately withdraw the punishment.,” BSF wrote in another tweet.

The incident happened in BSF’s 15 Battalion Headquarters in Mahatpur, Nadia in West Bengal on February 21 while the jawans were performing zero parade, an assembly where jawans report to seniors about their official activities. The jawan addressed PM Modi without the affix ‘Shri’.

Commanding officer of the battalion, Commander Anup Lal Bhagat initiated disciplinary action the jawan, who was later put on trial and found guilty.

Senior BSF officers termed the punishment as ‘a bit harsh’ and ‘uncalled for’. They said that discipline should be maintained in the force but the punishments given should be commensurate to the offence committed. An officer said the punishment decision was not at all ‘judicious’.
