It is the happiest thing in the world for any director to get an award for his film, but it happens to very few people that someone gets an award for his very first film. This has happened with Amar Maibam, a resident of Imphal, the capital of Manipur. He is a man who has been working as a bus conductor for nearly 10 years and then for four years between 2014 and 2018, he roamed with the truck drivers on the National Highway from Imphal to More and shot a video on the surface. He again turned that video into a documentary and that documentary now won the Best Film in the International category, at the eighth Docfest Award. The name of this film is 'Highways of Life', produced by the 'Film Division of India', while Biju Das has edited it. The most surprising thing is that the Dockfest Award included 1799 films from 124 countries, in which Amar Maibam's film has left everyone behind. It was the only film in India to be included in the Dockfest Award. Not only this, but Amar's film has also received four more awards at this film festival, including Best Non-Feature Film, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. This documentary of Amar Maibam is a total of 52 minutes, in which the life of the truck drivers is shown how they risk their lives and drive the truck on the highway. Even they sleep under the truck and spend life eating what they get.
