Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been granted bail by the Islamabad High Court in the Toshakhana-II case. She was released from Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, where she had been held under tight security for nine months, alongside her husband and his sisters.
The court set her bail at Rs 10 lakh. With Imran Khan still imprisoned, Bushra Bibi’s release makes her a significant figure for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which her husband leads. After her release, she returned to their Bani Gala residence and is expected to hold meetings with PTI leaders.
The Toshakhana-II case is linked to the earlier Toshakhana-I case, in which Imran Khan was accused of failing to disclose and misusing state gifts received from foreign officials. The prosecution claimed that during his time in office, Khan undervalued these gifts, including an expensive Bulgari set from the Saudi Crown Prince in 2021, and did not report them to the national treasury before selling them privately.
Bushra Bibi faces additional legal challenges beyond the Toshakhana cases. She and Imran Khan were arrested on July 13 by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) shortly after they were acquitted in the “Iddat” case. This case involved accusations of violating Islamic customs by marrying without adhering to the required waiting period following her previous marriage. In February, the trial court sentenced both to seven years in prison and imposed significant fines, ruling their marriage as fraudulent.
